When we replace ustnormal-↔ustu\leftrightarrow st, we seem to be replacing a complex numberPlanetmathPlanetmath with a real number? Why are we allowed to do that? And if we’re not doing that, how do we change the variable of integration from ttt to uuu?

Hi GFauxPas, the variables t and u are real, the parameter s also. It’s a question of a normal change of variables (cf. http://planetmath.org/changeofvariableindefiniteintegral).
